Great toy, too bad about the HUGE issue, January 20, 2007
By
Jocelyn Sullivan (Addison, NY United States) – See all my reviews

This hammer was purchased for my son for Christmas. HE LOVED IT! However, I noticed that there is a “film” almost skin-like peeling from the blue handle. I thought at first it was just a result of him playing with it (sticky hands, etc) but upon further investigation, I noticed that a clear plastic film is flaking from every spot on the handle. I don’t know if this is a product defect or if it is harmless, but either way, I have taken it away from him and sent a note on to “Little Tikes” expressing my concern. He enjoyed this toy so much… I will have to find something else to entertain him and his desire to bang on things.

We bought this for our daughters since they love to bang toys on the floor. I figured I might as well make it somewhat productive, so I bought it. They also have a hard time getting it away from me as I love to hear the sound effects. It’s a durable toy with a rubber grip and rubber hammer head, so you won’t see any dings or scratches from their hammering. Five stars!

My son loves to bang things to hear the noises it makes, but it wasn’t always pleasant to us. I saw this hammer in the store and I put it in the cart immediately. He has loved this toy for a good long time now. If he gets into his banging moods I get his hammer and tell him to bang with it. It makes cute noises and is safe.

I didn’t know this would vibrate when I bought it so I was a little surprised and hesitant when I took it out of the package. However, it’s become one of our little boy’s favorite toys. He will dig through his toy box to find this and chew on it. It didn’t take him long to figure out how to activate the vibration (just bite the corn end) and the handle is easy for him to hold on to. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is a John Deere fan and has kids!!

Cute but not as good as the star version, March 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Learning Curve John Deere Massaging Corn Teether (Baby Product)

I bought this to replace a 3 or 4 year old hand me down of the Learning Curve Massaging Action Teether. I really like the John Deere theme, but not so sure about all the rest. My son likes it, but the star seemed to have stronger massaging action and is definitely easier to operate. The vibrating mechanism in the star is triggered in the points where are easing to get in little mouths and hard to miss. The trigger for the corn is almost exactly in the middle so you have to get it pretty far in the mouth to be able to bite the right spot to set it off. My son is 14 months old, so he was able to figure it out and reach it but he seemed to struggle a little with keeping it in his mouth in that position.

There isn’t much educational value, but having the vibrating teether with nubs on it is excellent. We keep it in our diaper bag to have on hand at all times. It is easy for my son to hold and get it vibrating on his own. He isn’t fond of the cold teethers – I think he just doesn’t like having to touch the cold – this elimates that but still gives him comfort. I would totally purchase this again.

Surprisingly engaging for my 2-year-old!, November 19, 2009

My son got this for his second birthday from his grandma, and at first I was skeptical. It seemed like a toy for a much younger kid! But he Loooooooves it! He’s old enough to not only sort the shapes, but to open and close the clasp on the side, and pick it up and carry it around like a little briefcase. He quickly learned he had to get all the shapes perfectly into their spots in order to get it to close. We use it to teach the basic shapes (circle, triangle and square, though my husband likes to confuse the situation by using the proper three-dimensional shape names instead) and colors — it’s not so good for teaching animals, because they’re distorted into the shapes. We also use it as a “go-toy”, because it’s convenient to take with you, durable, and it’s easy to make sure you have all the pieces when you’re ready to leave. And he can use the blocks with his other blocks to stack or line them up. Overall, a surprisingly engaging toy for a 2-year-old boy!

Too big for little hands, November 18, 2009

This toy was much bigger and heavier than I expected. The lock on the side of the case is heavy duty and too difficult for my 19-month old to open. She has no problem with lots of other clasps and buttons. The individual blocks are also kinda disappointing. A few have interactive features (like shaking sounds) but most are fairly boring. My daughter played with this a bit when she first got it but I don’t expect it to have staying power. Simple stacking blocks or a traditional shape sorter would be a better investment. I suspect I’ll donate this to our local playroom as it takes up quite a bit of space and just isn’t rewarding enough for inquisitive minds.

A different take on the standard shape sorter toy that is bright & colorful. The animal faces on each block is another learning feature for little ones. Very durable and great carrying case too.
